"Elite" Combine Recap Part II

San Antonio, Texas-

Over 50 of the top upperclassmen and a few hand selected 2019 sophomores attended our "Elite" Combine at Mission Concepcion Sports Park.

While we weren't able to touch on every prospect in attendance, our Alamo City Hoops Staff kept a very close eye on some of the top performers for each classification. Here is the continuation of  the top 2017 prospects that showed well at our combine:

(Seniors)

Lamont Simmons, Jr. 6'6" PF (SA Reagan HS)
A long, versatile low post who left it all on the floor. Played down low and was also able to show off his touch from outside hitting some jump shots. Played in high gear and did so until cramps started kicking in. Showed toughness by sucking it up and getting back on the court to battle through them.

Matt Mccary 6'8" PF (Brandeis HS)
Was very impressive in displaying nice handles for a big. Is crafty around the rim, and uses an array of moves, fakes, and spins to get his shot off. Glides in transition and gets up and down the floor very well. Simply needs to improve on finishing at the hoop, but plenty of potential to go with a good skill-set from the big.

Rayshawn Dotson 6'5" PF (Judson HS)
Continues to produce no matter the setting. Has wide shoulders and a good upper body that help him carve out room down low. Around the tin, he scored at will. Despite only being 6'5", is a total monster on the glass. Works had for good position and uses his length to snare any loose ball within his vicinity.

Charles Bohannon 6'2" PG/SG (Buda Hays HS)
Is built like a pounding running back. Wide upper body that lets him be physical and attack the paint with no fear. Above average ball handling ability, good athlete who can get up, and showed that he gets after it on the defensive end as well, hounding the opposing point guard.

Raymond Rios 6'0" PG (Marshall HS)
Showed speed in the skill testing and it carried over to 5 on 5 action. Had an extra gear in the open court. On the floor, was seen being a floor general directing traffic and setting up the offense. When left open, showed would hit the outside shot and from beyond the arc as well.

Jonathan Malave 5'10" PG (Brennan HS)
Extremely quick point guard. Would go 0 to 60 very quickly, and stop on a dime. His quickness caused problems for defenders, and then he added an accurate set jump shot to go with it, making him a tough guard. Speaking of guarding, he showed to be a bulldog on defense. He used his quickness to net a couple of steals and constantly hound his man. Showed leadership qualities as the floor general for his teams.

That wraps up our 2017 recaps. Next we'll be posting about the 2018 juniors who stood out on Wednesday.
